BTS RM to open first major personal art collection exhibition at SFMOMA in October

BTS’s RM is taking his passion for art to a new level with his first museum exhibition featuring works from his personal collection.

The special exhibition, *RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me*, will open at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on October 3 and run through February 7, 2027.

It marks the first time RM will present his private art collection through a museum exhibition.

Speaking through BIGHIT MUSIC, RM described the project as a personal introduction to visitors.

*“This is the first time I’m sharing my collection under my own name. I think few things show a person as honestly as a collection they have built over a long period of time. In that sense, this exhibition will probably be a quite long self-introduction.”*

RM explained that his collection includes many works by modern and contemporary Korean artists, including names that may still be unfamiliar to audiences outside Korea.

*“I collected them hoping to add a slightly broader perspective and sensibility, and that process eventually led to this exhibition,”* he said.

RM was directly involved in planning and curating the exhibition alongside SFMOMA co-curators America Castillo and Kim Hyo Eun. He helped select the artworks and shape how they will be presented.

Visitors will also be able to read exhibition texts and artwork descriptions written by RM in both Korean and English. A bilingual audio guide recorded in his own voice will be available, while music personally selected by RM will play throughout the exhibition.

The collaboration is also significant for SFMOMA, as it marks the museum’s first exhibition project with a K-pop artist. According to the museum, SFMOMA approached RM after recognizing his long-standing interest in contemporary art.

Around 180 works will be displayed, including approximately 140 pieces from RM’s own collection. Many of those works will be shown in the United States for the first time.

The exhibition will feature Korean artists including Yun Hyong Keun, Park Re Hyun, Chang Ucchin, Kwon Ok Yeon, Kim Yun Shin, and Do Sang Bong, alongside works from SFMOMA’s collection by artists such as Kim Whanki, Nam June Paik, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, and Georgia O’Keeffe.

Through paintings, ceramics, calligraphy, sculptures, and other works, *RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me* will explore Korean art across centuries while connecting works from different cultures and periods through themes including nature, memory, and human existence.
