Kim Yoo Jung revealed that she studied Japanese and English while preparing for her role in tvN’s upcoming drama 100 Days of Deception. Her character, Lee Ga Kyung, goes undercover as an interpreter trainee, making foreign-language acting an important part of the role.
During the drama’s press conference on September 29, Kim Yoo Jung admitted that performing in foreign languages initially made her nervous.
She explained, “At first, I was scared about acting in foreign languages, but once I started studying, I thought it would be good for me. I wondered when I would ever get another opportunity like this.”
Rather than treating the language preparation only as a challenge, Kim Yoo Jung said she saw it as a chance to learn something new.
She also teased that viewers may notice differences in how the characters behave depending on which language they are speaking.
“Each character looks different when speaking different languages, so I think that will be another interesting point to watch,” she said.
Kim Yoo Jung plays Lee Ga Kyung, a skilled pickpocket in 1930s Gyeongseong who takes on a secret mission and infiltrates the Japanese Government-General of Korea while posing as an interpreter trainee.
She said she chose the project because she was drawn to the writer, director, cast, and the opportunity to portray the growth of a young woman living through that period.
100 Days of Deception, also starring Park Jinyoung, Kim Hyun Joo, Lee Moo Saeng, and Jin Seon Kyu, is scheduled to premiere on October 10 at 9:10 PM KST on tvN.
