BTS made a clean sweep at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, winning all three categories in which the group was nominated.
At the awards ceremony held on September 27 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, BTS took home Song of the Year and Best K-Pop for SWIM, the title track from their fifth full-length album ARIRANG. The group also won Best Group.
The three wins meant BTS converted every nomination they received at this year's MTV VMAs into a trophy.
Their Song of the Year victory was especially notable, as BTS became the first K-pop group to win the major category.
Through BIGHIT MUSIC, BTS thanked ARMY for their continued support.
“We sincerely thank ARMY for always sending us unwavering love and support. ‘ARIRANG’ feels like a new beginning for us, so these awards are even more meaningful,” the members said.
They continued, “We believe we were able to receive such a major award as Song of the Year with ‘SWIM’ thanks to everyone who loved our music. We will continue to show good music and performances together as seven members.”
BTS also extended their own record in the Best Group category. After winning the award for four consecutive years from 2019 to 2022, the group earned its fifth Best Group trophy in 2026.
SWIM, released in March, has also recorded strong results on major international music charts. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaked at No. 2 on the UK Official Singles Chart, and spent 25 consecutive days at No. 1 on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart.
Following their three-award sweep at the MTV VMAs, BTS is set to continue activities with the South American leg of BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’, beginning in Bogotá on October 2.
