BLACKPINK’s Lisa reached a new career milestone at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the first Asian solo artist to win the Best Pop category.
The awards ceremony was held on September 27 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where Lisa received the Best Pop trophy for her solo song Dream, featuring Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi. Reuters also reported Lisa among the winners at this year’s ceremony.
The achievement goes beyond K-pop. Lisa is the first Asian solo artist to win Best Pop at the MTV VMAs. BTS previously became the first Asian act to win the category as a group in 2020.
Lisa appeared emotional as she accepted the award and thanked fans in both English and Thai.
“Thank you so much for this amazing award. I wouldn’t be standing here without Lilies,” she said, referring to her solo fandom.
Lisa entered the 2026 MTV VMAs with four nominations, including Best Pop, Best K-Pop, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing. MTV’s official nominee listings also included Dream in the professional categories for cinematography and editing.
The Best Pop victory adds another major international award to Lisa’s solo career and marks a broader milestone for Asian solo artists at the MTV VMAs.
