SEVENTEEN’s Jun is preparing to show a new side of himself as a solo artist with his first Chinese EP, 9.
The new EP will be released on September 28 and features lyrics written with Jun’s participation, including the title track and other songs on the album.
According to Pledis Entertainment, 9 draws inspiration from the Chinese folk legend of a cat that gains nine tails after a long period of cultivation and eventually achieves immortality.
The album uses that concept to explore a journey of accepting unfamiliar emotions and gradually discovering one’s true self. Its songs cover emotions ranging from curiosity and excitement to jealousy, doubt, boredom, and forgiveness.
Jun, who previously released solo tracks including Gemini, PSYCHO, and LIMBO, said the upcoming project allowed him to experiment with different musical ideas.
“9 is an album filled with many different new attempts,” Jun said through Pledis Entertainment on September 27.
He also shared what he hopes listeners will discover through the EP.
“I want to show the fans who have watched me until now how much I’ve grown. I also have a small ambition to leave an impression as ‘singer Jun’ on people hearing my music for the first time,” he said.
All tracks from Jun’s first Chinese EP 9, along with the music video for its title track, will be released on September 28 at 11 a.m.
