Park Bo Young opened up about the physical changes she went through while filming her upcoming project Goldland, where she also surprised fans with a noticeably shorter hairstyle.
On September 26, W Korea released an interview with the actress in which she discussed the behind-the-scenes experience of working on Goldland.
Park Bo Young explained that she was attracted to the project because it gave her an opportunity to take on a darker and less familiar genre.
“I always want to try something new first,” she said. “Something I haven’t challenged myself with before and something that allows me to show a new side of myself is the most important thing to me.”
She added that choosing a new project often comes with mixed emotions, saying, “There is both excitement and fear because I never know what kind of script I’ll encounter next.”
Park Bo Young also revealed that filming Goldland involved extensive location shoots in Gangwon Province, including areas around Taebaek and former mining communities. Because traveling back and forth could take around seven hours, she often stayed in the area during production.
The actress said her diet was also managed during filming because the director wanted her character to appear thinner as the story progressed.
“The director really restricted my diet,” Park Bo Young explained. “He wanted me to look a little thinner toward the later part. But because I was working so hard physically, the weight came off pretty easily.”
Park Bo Young said another major reason she chose Goldland was the opportunity to lead a darker genre project centered on a female character, giving her the chance to show viewers a different side of her acting.
