Choi Yuri has shared how meaningful it was to work with Lee Min Ho in the upcoming film The Assassin(s), saying she had admired him even before they met on set.
In the film, Choi Yuri plays Choi Seung Hwa, a choir member attending a Liberation Day ceremony. The story is inspired by the 1974 assassination attempt involving South Korea’s first lady and follows the mystery surrounding the incident.
Choi Yuri explained that director Hur Jin Ho personally invited her to meet after she read the script. As this was her first period film, she also studied the era and the real-life background that inspired the story before filming began.
She said the set itself helped her feel more comfortable once production started because the environment made the period feel real.
Choi Yuri also recalled receiving help from Lee Min Ho while filming their scenes together.
She shared, *“Whenever I was having difficulty, Lee Min Ho matched the scene with me really well. He would say, ‘Yuri, if you say your line here, I’ll respond like this,’ and he helped me first, so I was very grateful.”*
The actress said meeting Lee Min Ho in person felt especially memorable because she had already been a fan of his work.
*“I already liked and respected Lee Min Ho, so it felt amazing to actually meet him,”* she said.
She admitted that she was shy around him at first, but said Lee Min Ho gradually helped her feel more at ease by starting conversations and treating her comfortably as filming continued.
*“Toward the second half of filming, he would talk to me first and make me feel comfortable, so I was able to finish filming much more easily,”* she explained.
Choi Yuri also praised fellow cast members Yoo Hae Jin and Park Hae Il for being considerate on set, recalling that they often greeted her first and looked after younger actors.
For Choi Yuri, joining The Assassin(s) became a meaningful experience not only because it marked her first period project, but also because it gave her the chance to work closely with senior actors she had long admired.
