Seo Kang Joon shared a thoughtful view on love and relationships, explaining that he believes people should maintain their own lives even when they deeply care for someone.
In a new interview with Elle Korea, the actor spoke about love while discussing his current drama A Love Other Than Yours, where he plays the gentle boyfriend Nam Goong Ho.
Seo Kang Joon explained that healthy love begins with being emotionally grounded on your own.
He said, “I believe I need to stand firmly on my own before I can truly love someone.”
He continued, “Sacrificing for someone can be one form of love, but the condition is that you still maintain your own life. The other person should not become the reason for your entire life.”
The actor’s comments reflected the themes of love and relationships explored in A Love Other Than Yours, but he also spoke from a broader personal perspective.
Seo Kang Joon added that both positive and difficult emotions can have value in life. He described feelings such as loneliness and emptiness as moments that can help a person better understand themselves.
Speaking about his future as an actor, he also said he wants to expand the way he expresses emotions on screen while learning when to hold back.
He explained, “I want to break through another layer of my limits in expression.” At the same time, he said he hopes to become more comfortable conveying emotion without always showing everything directly.
Seo Kang Joon is currently appearing in A Love Other Than Yours, where his character is at the center of a story examining love, relationships, and emotional uncertainty.
