Nana has personally addressed criticism about her appearance in Netflix’s The Scandal.
On September 22, the actress shared a message with fans through a communication platform after receiving negative comments about her casting and appearance in the historical drama.
Nana plays Hee Yeon, a woman who becomes a widow before her wedding is completed, marking her first role in a period drama.
Some viewers criticized what they described as Nana’s modern image and fuller lips, saying they found it difficult to match the historical setting.
Responding to the comments, Nana wrote, “If my lips made viewers uncomfortable, then that is my responsibility. I think my personal choice may not have been the right choice as an actress.”
She also acknowledged that fans may feel hurt when reading harsh reactions about her.
“I think it must be painful for the fans who love me to see those negative comments, so I feel even more sorry,” she said.
Nana added that she plans to keep working so fans can hear more positive reactions in the future.
“I’ll work hard so that we can hear good things together from now on,” she wrote.
The Scandal is a Netflix period drama about Lady Jo, a talented woman living under the restrictions of Joseon society, and Jo Won, a notorious romantic who becomes involved in a dangerous love game. Nana’s character, Hee Yeon, becomes one of the women drawn into that story.
