Actress Shin Ye Eun spent several days with Myanmar refugee children in Mae Sot, Thailand, taking part in educational and community activities during her first overseas field visit with humanitarian organization Korea Food for the Hungry International.
According to the organization, Shin Ye Eun visited the border region from September 11 to 16 as part of her role as an ambassador.
Mae Sot, located near the Myanmar border, is home to many refugees and migrants who have crossed into Thailand due to ongoing conflict and instability in Myanmar. Many families in the area continue to face difficulties involving housing, education, and everyday living conditions.
During the visit, Shin Ye Eun went to refugee schools and local churches, helped serve meals, and spent time with children through different activities.
One of the highlights was a play that Shin Ye Eun personally prepared for the children.
She also joined them in making origami and bracelets, playing games, and participating in recreational activities designed to create opportunities for interaction and positive memories.
Reflecting on the experience, Shin Ye Eun said, *“Meeting the children in person and seeing how they live and study helped me understand more clearly what is needed on the ground.”*
She added, *“It was only a short time, but I think the moments when we laughed and talked together will stay with me for a long time. I will continue to care about helping children learn safely and keep pursuing their dreams.”*
Shin Ye Eun has supported children overseas since beginning a child sponsorship in Vietnam in 2019. She has since supported children in countries including Ecuador, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Following her visit to Mae Sot, she is also beginning a new sponsorship connection with a Myanmar refugee child.
Korea Food for the Hungry International said it plans to launch a fundraising campaign with Shin Ye Eun to support refugee children living in the Mae Sot area.
The organization hopes the project will help provide continued educational and care support while raising awareness of the challenges faced by Myanmar refugee families in the region.
