Disney+'s upcoming series The Remarried Empress is showing strong early interest ahead of its November premiere, with its public screenings at the Busan International Film Festival selling out.
The fantasy romance was officially invited to the On Screen section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival. After general reservations opened on September 21, all available seats for the drama's public screening were sold out.
Interest in the project had already been evident earlier in the festival schedule. An Actors House event featuring Shin Min Ah and Ju Ji Hoon also reportedly sold out quickly after reservations opened on September 17.
Director Jo Soo Won and lead stars Shin Min Ah, Ju Ji Hoon, Lee Jong Suk, and Lee Se Young are expected to attend festival activities, including a guest visit and outdoor stage greeting.
The Remarried Empress follows Navier, played by Shin Min Ah, the respected empress of the Eastern Empire. Her life changes when Emperor Sovieshu, played by Ju Ji Hoon, becomes involved with Rashta, played by Lee Se Young, and asks Navier for a divorce.
Rather than simply accepting the end of their marriage, Navier makes an unexpected request: permission to remarry Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom, played by Lee Jong Suk.
The drama's star-filled cast and popular source material have already helped generate significant attention before its official release.
Its teaser trailer also added to the early momentum. According to Disney, the teaser surpassed 11.7 million views worldwide within its first 24 hours, making it the most-viewed trailer for a Korean Disney+ original series during its first day of release at the time of the announcement.
New character stills of Shin Min Ah as Navier, Ju Ji Hoon as Sovieshu, Lee Jong Suk as Heinrey, and Lee Se Young as Rashta have also been released, giving viewers a closer look at the four characters at the center of the royal romance and conflict.
With both its festival screening and related events selling out, The Remarried Empress is continuing to build anticipation ahead of its Disney+ premiere on November 4.
