Four Hands, Two Sonatas has reached another personal best in ratings as Song Kang and Lee Jun Young’s characters finally shared an important stage together.

According to Nielsen Korea, episode 8 of the tvN weekend drama recorded an average nationwide rating of 7.9 percent, with a peak of 9.0 percent, marking the series’ highest ratings so far.

In the Seoul metropolitan area, the episode earned an average rating of 7.5 percent and peaked at 8.8 percent.

The drama also ranked No. 1 in its time slot across all channels, including public broadcasters, in both nationwide and metropolitan ratings. Nationwide, Four Hands, Two Sonatas has now remained No. 1 in its time slot among cable and general programming channels for eight consecutive episodes.

It also placed first in its time slot among cable and general programming channels in tvN’s key 20 to 49 demographic.

The latest episode centered on a major turning point for pianists Kang Pi-o, played by Song Kang, and Choi Jeong Yo, played by Lee Jun Young.

After becoming a guest conductor for the Korean Symphony, Jeong Yo worked to convince Pi-o to perform with him despite Pi-o struggling with his confidence as a pianist.

Jeong Yo reminded him that avoiding a slump would not make it disappear, causing Pi-o to remember similar advice he had once given Jeong Yo years earlier.

As Pi-o slowly returned to the piano, Jeong Yo encouraged him to focus less on the people watching and more on why he wanted to play in the first place.

He told him, “Your first audience is yourself,” encouraging Pi-o to perform music for his own sake.

Remembering the joy he once felt while playing piano with Jeong Yo helped Pi-o regain some of his confidence. The two eventually completed their long-awaited performance together, bringing their complicated musical relationship to another important stage.

However, the episode also hinted that Jeong Yo has his own hidden plans connected to the incident that changed his life years ago. A new discovery following the performance also raised fresh questions about how Pi-o will respond as the truth surrounding the past begins to emerge.
