Hyeri has explained why she eventually chose to talk publicly about her charitable donations, despite initially feeling uncomfortable about sharing them.
In a video uploaded to her YouTube channel on September 18, Hyeri spoke with actress Park Kyung Hye about giving back and how the experience affected her personally.
When Park Kyung Hye said she had long wanted to donate, Hyeri reflected on her 16 years working in the entertainment industry.
*“I’ve been working in this industry for 16 years, and after that long, there were several moments when my faith in humanity was completely shattered,”* Hyeri said. *“This helped me recharge that feeling.”*
She then showed letters she had received after making donations. According to Hyeri, organizations sometimes send updates explaining how the support was used and sharing messages from people who received help.
*“They tell you how the donations were used and send letters from the people who received support,”* she explained, adding that some of the handwritten messages reminded her of her own grandparents.
After reading the letters, Park Kyung Hye became emotional and said they seemed to provide a kind of encouragement that could be difficult to give oneself.
Hyeri agreed, saying that although the letters were written to thank her, she often felt she received something even more meaningful in return.
She also explained why she decided to reveal her donations publicly.
*“At first, saying that I donated felt a little like I was showing off, so I wondered if it would be better not to talk about it,”* Hyeri said.
However, she eventually changed her perspective after seeing how meaningful the responses from recipients could be.
*“I wanted to talk about it with the feeling of, ‘Why don’t we try this together?’”* she said. *“There were things I couldn’t fill no matter what I did, but sharing with others somehow made me feel more fulfilled.”*
Rather than focusing on the amount she donated, Hyeri emphasized that she shared the story because she hoped her experience could encourage others to consider helping in their own way.
