WJSN’s Seola has apologized after facing criticism over the use of AI in a handwritten letter announcing her departure from Starship Entertainment.
On September 17, Seola shared a handwritten message on Instagram confirming that she would be leaving Starship Entertainment after approximately 15 years with the company, including her trainee period.
In the letter, Seola reflected on her long history with the agency, from her trainee days to debuting with WJSN and later releasing music under her own name.
She wrote, “From the moment I first formed a connection with Starship until becoming the Seola I am today, we went through many seasons together.”
Seola also expressed gratitude to the company and fans, saying the experiences she gained over the years helped shape who she is today.
However, some users later questioned whether the handwritten image had been created or processed with AI after noticing unusual-looking characters and spelling errors in the image.
Following the discussion, Seola addressed the issue through her Instagram Story and apologized for her decision.
She explained, “My handwritten letter was uneven and difficult to read, so I thought uploading a version that was easier to read would help, but I think I was too thoughtless.”
She added, “I’ll be more careful about everything from now on. I’m sorry.”
The criticism focused on the presentation of the letter rather than the message itself, which marked Seola’s departure from the agency she had been with since before her debut.
Seola debuted as a member of WJSN in 2016. The group became known for songs including La La Love, BUTTERFLY, UNNATURAL, As You Wish, and Save Me, Save You.
In her farewell message, Seola thanked WJSN’s fandom UJUNG for supporting her throughout her career and said she plans to move forward at her own pace as she begins a new chapter.
