Soyeon’s latest solo track I’m gonna TOESA has climbed to the top of Melon’s TOP100, just 10 days after its release sparked discussion over its unusual workplace concept.
Released on September 7 as the title track of Soyeon’s first full-length solo album 끝내주는 인생, the song features narration from Kian84 and uses the familiar feeling of wanting to quit a job as its central theme.
The track quickly gained attention as a relatable song for workers, but it also prompted mixed reactions online.
Some questioned whether an idol without a traditional office job could realistically represent the feelings of employees, while others focused on the song’s broader message about wanting freedom from stressful situations.
Despite the discussion, I’m gonna TOESA reached No. 1 on Melon’s TOP100 on the morning of September 17. It remained near the top of the chart later that day, ranking No. 2 as of 5 p.m.
Soyeon has previously spoken about the pressure she experiences while preparing music. During a February appearance on Kian84’s YouTube channel, she said, “I get extremely stressed every time I make an album. I check the risks with every department, and I’m incredibly nervous even the day before.”
She has also explained that I’m gonna TOESA was not intended to speak only to office workers.
Discussing the meaning behind the track, Soyeon said, “I wanted to give everyone who listens to this song a sense of freedom.”
Rather than focusing only on literally leaving a company, the song uses quitting as a playful symbol for escaping pressure and enjoying life.
