Red Velvet’s Yeri has opened up about the lasting effects of a 2016 traffic accident, explaining that her injuries were more serious than the initial public statement suggested.
On September 16, Yeri shared a new video on her YouTube channel Yerimiz, featuring fellow Red Velvet member Seulgi as her first guest. While visiting a pottery workshop together, the two looked back on the accident they experienced about 10 years ago.
At the time, SM Entertainment said Yeri and Seulgi had been involved in a taxi accident while returning to their dorm after a break. The agency described their injuries as relatively minor and said they would temporarily pause activities to recover.
However, Yeri explained that her own condition was more serious.

Recalling the accident, Yeri said she and Seulgi had taken a taxi to Lotte World for Halloween before getting into an accident on their way home.
She shared, “I was badly injured.”
Seulgi remembered looking over immediately after the crash and becoming alarmed after seeing Yeri bleeding.
Yeri explained, “I was bleeding from my mouth. I was actually hospitalized and received treatment for a long time.”
According to Yeri, the impact caused her to be thrown forward inside the vehicle. She said the white part of her eye became completely red and that the accident left a slight change to the position of her eye.

She added, “We seriously considered whether I should have surgery, but in the end I decided not to have it.”
Yeri also revealed that she experienced fear of riding in cars after the accident and required a long period to recover.
Looking back at reports that called the incident minor, she said, “Articles said it was a minor accident, but for me it wasn’t minor. I was really badly hurt.”
Yeri further shared that she developed eye floaters following the accident and still notices small spots in her vision today.
Despite discussing the difficult experience, Yeri and Seulgi also recalled the incident with some humor. Yeri said they once joked that after going out to see zombies for Halloween, she ended up looking like one herself.
The accident previously led Yeri to take an extended break from activities, but her latest comments offered fans a clearer picture of what she says she experienced and how long her recovery actually took.
