Kim So Hyun has shared why she chose to appear in Love Doctor, the final drama directed by the late Ahn Pan Seok.
Ahead of the drama’s October 5 premiere, the production team released new stills of Kim So Hyun as her character Lim Yoo Jin on September 18.
Kim So Hyun explained that she was immediately interested in the drama because of its realistic and honest approach to romance and everyday life.
She said, “When I read the script, I felt it was realistic and very honest. It felt like a story that reflects our lives through the romance genre, so I became curious about how it would develop.”
The actress also revealed that working with Ahn Pan Seok was an important reason behind her decision to accept the role.
She added, “I wanted to be part of the journey Director Ahn Pan Seok would create, and I thought it would give me an opportunity to grow another step as an actress.”
Kim So Hyun plays Lim Yoo Jin, a fashion student approaching graduation who feels uncertain about her future career.
She described the character as someone who strongly pursues love and is willing to trust her own decisions, openly express her feelings, and act on them even when she is unsure of the outcome.
Kim So Hyun explained, “She is unpredictable, inexperienced, but also courageous.”
She said she tried to trust her character’s choices throughout filming, even during moments when Yoo Jin’s decisions were difficult to understand.
Love Doctor is the final project of director Ahn Pan Seok, who passed away after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.
During his long career, Ahn Pan Seok directed several acclaimed dramas, including Something in the Rain, One Spring Night, Secret Love Affair, The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, and The Art of Negotiation.
Kim So Hyun’s comments highlight the personal meaning behind joining the project, as she viewed working with Ahn Pan Seok not only as a chance to take on a new character but also as an opportunity to grow as an actress while taking part in the director’s final creative journey.
