John Park is surprising fans with an unexpected new challenge as he prepares to try rapping for the first time.
The singer recently shared a post in an online hip hop community, introducing himself under the rap name “John Pak” and revealing that he had uploaded his first original rap track to SoundCloud.
John Park wrote, “Hi, everyone. My name is John Park — no, John Pak. I recently started a new rap series on my YouTube channel, and I made my first rap and uploaded it to SoundCloud.”
He explained that he kept the beat simple and wrote the lyrics almost like a personal introduction. He also openly invited listeners to give him honest feedback.
“You can curse at me or leave negative comments. Any feedback is welcome. I’d appreciate an honest review,” he said.
The project appears to be part of a new rap challenge on his YouTube channel John or Park, where he has already covered idol rap parts and tried writing his own lyrics.
John Park said his interest in hip hop goes much deeper than a simple variety show idea.
He told the production team, “I want to rap,” before explaining that hip hop had been important to him since he was young.
“I really love hip hop. I was saved by Eminem when I was in middle school,” he said.
John Park recalled struggling after moving to the United States when he was younger and said Eminem’s Sing for the Moment gave him comfort during that difficult period.
He explained that his respect for hip hop was actually the reason he had avoided casually releasing rap music in the past.
“I’ve never rapped as a joke or released a rap track before because I love hip hop that much. It was my way of respecting it,” he said. “But now I want to challenge myself because I genuinely love it.”
When the production team expressed concern about how people might react, John Park said he was prepared for criticism.
“If I’m bad, I should get criticized. If I’m good, people will say I’m good. If I’m bad, they’ll say I’m bad,” he said.
John Park also called singer Lee Juck for advice and revealed that he plans to use “John Pak” as his rap name.
Lee Juck encouraged him, saying, “Art is acting. Rap is acting too. You have to become the speaker and perform it. I think you’ll do well.”
The conversation became even more playful when Lee Juck asked whether John Park had told their agency head about the project.
John Park replied, “I’m going to make sure he doesn’t know.”
Lee Juck responded, “That’s probably better,” adding another humorous twist to John Park’s unexpected rap challenge.
With his first original rap now released and his longtime love for Eminem revealed, John Park is drawing attention for taking on hip hop in a more serious and personal way.
