Actress Ryu Hye Young’s unique way of calling male friends became a fun topic after Lee Min Ho revealed that she calls him “hyung” instead of “oppa.”
On the September 14 episode of the YouTube variety show Jjanhan Hyung, Ryu Hye Young appeared with Lee Min Ho and Kim Dae Myung while promoting their upcoming film The Assassin(s).
During the conversation, Lee Min Ho shared that Ryu Hye Young has always used “hyung” when speaking to male acquaintances.
“Ryu Hye Young calls everyone ‘hyung.’ She has done that since we first met,” Lee Min Ho said.
The discussion continued when host Shin Dong Yup mentioned that some people only use “oppa” for someone they are romantically involved with.
Ryu Hye Young agreed and explained that she follows a personal rule when choosing how to address someone.
“If I’m dating someone and he wants me to call him ‘oppa,’ then I do,” she explained.
When asked if she would still call someone “hyung” if they did not ask for “oppa,” Ryu Hye Young replied, “Yes,” before joking, “Otherwise, I just call them ‘hey.’”
The playful conversation between the cast members showed Ryu Hye Young’s straightforward personality and created a lighthearted moment during the show.
Meanwhile, Ryu Hye Young, Lee Min Ho, and Kim Dae Myung are starring in the upcoming mystery film The Assassin(s), which explores the investigation into a historical assassination case and its hidden questions. The film will be released on September 23.
