Lee Min Ho opened up about how he approached his energetic and unpredictable character in the upcoming film *Assassins*, revealing that he deliberately relied on physical movement to make the role feel more alive.
During a press screening for the film on September 8, Lee Min Ho discussed playing Young Il, an ambitious rookie reporter who personally runs around investigating and documenting events with his camera.
*Assassins* is set around the 1974 assassination of South Korea’s first lady and uses cinematic imagination to explore questions and mysteries surrounding the historic incident.
Speaking about the role, Lee Min Ho said he focused on understanding the determination of journalists who searched for the truth during a period he did not personally experience.
*“These days, I often feel that provocative content or headlines are considered more important than the truth itself,”* he said. *“Since we live in a time when it can be difficult to distinguish truth from lies, I thought most about the beliefs of people who pursued the truth in an era I never lived through.”*
Lee Min Ho also revealed that he and director Hur Jin Ho wanted Young Il to feel spontaneous and constantly moving rather than controlled or predictable.
*“The director and I talked a lot about wanting him to feel like a live fish,”* Lee Min Ho explained.
To create that energy, the actor said he tried to use his body as much as possible while filming.
*“Even on set, I kept discussing ways for me to move around and physically run as much as possible,”* he said. *“I wanted the ambition and energy of a rookie reporter to really come through on screen.”*
Rather than portraying Young Il as a polished veteran journalist, Lee Min Ho focused on his youthful drive, curiosity, and restless energy as he searches for answers.
*Assassins* also stars Yoo Hae Jin and Park Hae Il, with Hur Jin Ho directing the historical mystery film.
