BLACKPINK’s Lisa opened up about her close friendship with Jisoo, revealing how her fellow member helped her learn Korean and stayed with her during their difficult trainee days.
Lisa shared the story during a September 4 appearance on the U.S. podcast In Your Dreams With Owen Thiele, where she discussed her journey to becoming a K-pop artist and her experiences after moving to South Korea.
When asked whether she could speak Korean when she first arrived in the country, Lisa said she could not and had to learn the language from the beginning.
“I started learning after I came to Korea,” Lisa said, explaining that it took her around two to three years to become comfortable with the language.
She then credited Jisoo with helping her during that period, affectionately describing her as “my Korean teacher.”
According to Lisa, Jisoo made a special effort to spend time with her when other trainees returned home on weekends.
“Jisoo helped me a lot. Every weekend, the trainees would go back home, but Jisoo chose to spend time with me,” Lisa recalled.
Despite Lisa still struggling with Korean at the time, the two regularly went out together and found different ways to communicate.
“My Korean wasn’t good, but we kept hanging out and talking,” she said.
Lisa also remembered how they became closer by sharing childhood photos with each other.
“I would show Jisoo pictures from when I was young, and she would show me her pictures too,” Lisa shared.
