A BTS Jimin fan shared an emotional story about taking her mother, who has dementia, to a BTS concert in Chicago after realizing that her mother still remembered Jimin’s name.
In a video shared on social media, the daughter told her mother, “Mom, I bought tickets so we can go see Jimin.” Her mother appeared happy and repeatedly said, “I’m going to see my Jimin,” while traveling to the concert.
The daughter explained that her mother remembered Jimin but had difficulty recalling other details about the trip.
“Right after I filmed the video, my mom asked where Jimin was and why we needed suitcases,” she said. “She remembers Jimin, but she does not remember where we are going or why we are taking a plane.”
The fan said she became a VIP so they could attend the concert together. They also visited a pop up store, where they bought new Jimin merchandise for her mother’s bedroom.
Photos showed the mother smiling while wearing a shirt with Jimin’s name on it. The daughter described the concert trip as one of the small but meaningful moments she has been able to share with her mother.
A similar story involving Jimin’s music was previously featured on the tvN program Free 19 in 2021. A family said a father living with paralysis and dementia responded after hearing Jimin’s solo song Lie. The family later played the song during meals and reportedly included it at his funeral after his death.
The recent fan story has drawn attention because it shows how a familiar artist and song can remain meaningful to some people living with memory loss, according to the family members who shared these experiences.
