Song Kang revealed that he once received an offer to become an idol, but turned it down for a surprisingly simple reason.
During the August 26 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, Song Kang looked back on his path to becoming an actor and shared that he had been approached about becoming an idol while studying film arts at Konkuk University.
Host Yoo Jae Suk reacted to the story by praising Song Kang’s appearance, saying, “There’s no way people would have left you alone. You have the face of an idol center.”
However, Song Kang explained that he did not feel confident about pursuing an idol career.
He admitted, “I’m not good at singing or dancing.”
The program also showed older clips of Song Kang singing and dancing, adding a humorous touch to his honest explanation.
Song Kang also shared that acting had been his main goal from an early stage. He became interested in the profession after watching Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic, saying the actor’s performance and gaze inspired him to pursue acting.
His mother initially questioned whether acting suited his quiet personality, while his father encouraged him to try what he truly wanted.
Song Kang eventually chose acting over the idol path and gained wider recognition after landing a leading role in Love Alarm early in his career. He later appeared in projects including the Sweet Home series and established himself as one of Korea’s well-known actors.
Looking back, Song Kang said his success also made him want to give back to his parents. He shared that he bought his father a car and gives his parents financial support, adding, “I thought I should become even more successful and take better care of them.”
Despite Yoo Jae Suk joking that he had the looks of an idol center, Song Kang’s decision to reject an idol offer ultimately led him toward the acting career he originally wanted.
