On August 27, Netflix released new character stills for The Scandal, offering a closer look at its three central characters ahead of the series’ September premiere.
The project is especially notable for Son Ye Jin, who is taking on a historical drama role for the first time in 24 years.
She stars as Lady Jo, a highly intelligent woman whose ambitions have been restricted by the social limits placed on women during the Joseon era.
The newly released images highlight different sides of Lady Jo, including her elegant public image and the more private, calculating personality behind it.
Son Ye Jin is expected to portray the character’s hidden desires, intelligence, and strategic nature as she becomes involved in a dangerous romantic wager.
Ji Chang Wook plays Jo Won, a charming man from a respected family who has become known for pursuing pleasure and romance.
After reconnecting with Lady Jo, his childhood pen pal and cousin, he accepts a risky bet in hopes of obtaining something he has long wanted.
Nana, meanwhile, takes on her first historical drama role as Hee Yeon, a young widow whose life has been heavily restricted after losing her husband before their marriage could fully begin.
Her quiet life begins to change after she becomes unexpectedly connected to Lady Jo and Jo Won’s wager.
The Scandal is a series adaptation of the film of the same name, expanding the familiar story through the perspectives of its three main characters. The Netflix series is directed by Jung Ji Woo.
With Son Ye Jin returning to historical drama after more than two decades, Ji Chang Wook taking on a charismatic and emotionally complicated role, and Nana making her historical drama debut, the three stars are expected to be a major focus of the upcoming series.
Netflix’s The Scandal is scheduled to premiere on September 18.
