Pre-debut boy group TRYTHAT has revealed the senior artists who inspired its six members to pursue music, with BTS’s Jungkook, G-Dragon, EXO, and NCT members among their biggest role models.
TRYTHAT, consisting of Hyukjin, Hanseo, Minha, Atom, Kion, and Phil, released its pre-debut single Frequency on August 18. The dance-pop track is built around a strong house rhythm and represents six people with different backgrounds coming together through the same musical “frequency.” Hanseo and Minha also participated in writing the lyrics.
During a recent interview, the members opened up about the artists who influenced their individual goals.
Kion chose BTS member Jungkook as his role model, explaining that BTS was one of the groups that first made him dream of becoming an idol.
Kion said, “When I first dreamed of becoming an idol, I watched BTS, and among them, Jungkook was the person I looked up to.”
After becoming the youngest member of TRYTHAT, Kion said he began studying Jungkook even more closely.
“Since I became the youngest member when our team was formed, I started thinking about what kind of charm and skills I could show as the youngest, like Jungkook. I’ve been watching and studying him a lot.”
Hanseo named G-Dragon as the artist who first inspired his idol dream. He explained that he has long wanted to become an artist involved in creating his own music, performances, and style.
“I started dreaming of becoming an idol because of G-Dragon,” Hanseo said. “From the beginning, I dreamed of becoming an artist who creates things myself. My dream is to perform with clothes, songs, and dances that I helped make.”
Phil selected EXO’s D.O. as his vocal role model and Kai as his dance role model, saying he admires the direction both artists have taken in their respective strengths.
Minha named NCT’s Doyoung, explaining that he became interested in him through his singing and was especially impressed by the effort Doyoung puts into recording sessions and live performances.
Hyukjin chose NCT’s Mark, saying he admires his dance style and energetic approach to a demanding schedule. Atom, meanwhile, named NCT’s Yuta as his role model.
Although each member looks up to a different artist, TRYTHAT said they share the same goal of growing into a group that can perform globally.
The members are currently using their pre-debut period to develop their skills and show their growth before their official debut. They are also preparing to meet fans through performances in Japan in September before beginning full-scale activities in South Korea.
Looking ahead, the members mentioned goals including performing on bigger stages, winning first place on music shows, and eventually holding their own concerts.
Hyukjin summed up their determination by saying, “Every one of us is giving everything we have. Please watch us and look forward to what we can show.”
