Hyun Bin opened up about why his character Baek Ki Tae in Disney+’s Made in Korea 2 feels especially meaningful to him.
Ahead of the drama’s release, Hyun Bin joined Jung Woo Sung and Woo Do Hwan for a pictorial and interview with fashion magazine Elle, where the three actors shared how their characters have changed in the new season.
Speaking about Baek Ki Tae, Hyun Bin explained that the character has become even more daring after the events of the first season.
He said, “He has become bolder. The more power he gains, the more daring the way he responds becomes.”
Hyun Bin added that the change is reflected not only in Baek Ki Tae’s decisions, but also in smaller details such as the way he speaks, walks, behaves, and even dresses.
He then shared why the role stands out in his career, saying, “This is the first time I have carried one character with me for this long. My feelings toward Baek Ki Tae are a little more special.”
Jung Woo Sung, who returns as Jang Geon Young, also described how his character has changed after years of hardship.
He said Geon Young has become stronger and more aggressive, while the story continues to explore how people struggle within larger systems and question whether achieving a goal automatically makes that goal right.
Woo Do Hwan, who plays Baek Ki Tae’s younger brother Baek Ki Hyun, said his character has also matured and gained more responsibility. He explained that Ki Hyun believes he needs greater power in order to protect his family.
Woo Do Hwan also spoke about working with Hyun Bin and Jung Woo Sung, saying he closely observed how the two senior actors approach both acting and life.
He shared, “I hope that even 10 or 20 years from now, I can still be an actor who is able to work on projects this good.”
Made in Korea 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on September 9.
