Actor Jang Dong Yoon has officially graduated from Hanyang University, 15 years after first enrolling in the school.
Jang Dong Yoon entered Hanyang University’s Department of Economics and Finance in 2011 and received his bachelor’s degree at the university’s graduation ceremony held on August 20 at the Seoul campus.
After the ceremony, the actor shared proof on social media that his academic status had officially changed to “graduate,” along with a crying emoji to express his emotions.
His graduation has also brought renewed attention to a well-known story from his university days that played an unexpected role in the start of his entertainment career.
In 2015, while he was a third-year student, Jang Dong Yoon reportedly witnessed an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Seoul’s Gwanak District. According to previous reports, he pretended to be talking to a friend while contacting emergency services, helping police respond to the situation.
He later received a commendation from the Gwanak Police Station as well as an award from Hanyang University for his actions.
Jang Dong Yoon’s television interview about the incident also attracted attention online at the time, with viewers taking notice of the university student who had helped authorities. The exposure eventually became one of the opportunities that led him to enter the entertainment industry the following year.
Now, more than a decade after that memorable college story, Jang Dong Yoon has completed another major chapter by officially receiving his university degree.
Meanwhile, the actor is set to make a special appearance in the upcoming Disney+ original series The Miracles of the Namiya General Store.
