Ha Young returns to filming ‘There Is a Chance of Winning’ after controversy as agency confirms schedule continues

Actress Ha Young has resumed filming for SBS’s upcoming drama There Is a Chance of Winning following the recent controversy involving her great-grandfather’s reported actions during Korea’s Japanese colonial period.

On August 20, Ha Young’s agency, Busters Entertainment, confirmed that she is continuing with the production as originally planned.

The agency stated, “Ha Young is continuing with the previously scheduled filming for SBS drama ‘There Is a Chance of Winning.’”

Reports previously said filming was briefly interrupted following the controversy, but Ha Young returned to the set about a week later. Her agency declined to provide further details about the production schedule, saying, “We ask for your understanding that it is difficult to disclose specific schedules or details about the progress.”

SBS has also addressed the situation cautiously. The network stated, “We are taking the recent matter involving a cast member seriously and are carefully discussing it from various angles with the production company and related parties.” SBS added that any decisions would be announced through official channels.

The issue began after Ha Young spoke on television about coming from a family of doctors and mentioned her great-grandfather. Online discussions later focused on historical records concerning her great-grandfather, Ahn Sang Ho, leading to criticism over his reported pro-Japanese activities.

Ha Young later posted a handwritten apology, explaining that she had previously known only limited information about her great-grandfather through family stories. She said, “Through this incident, I personally looked into the related records and learned about my great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese activities.” She added that not knowing the full history was not a reason to overlook it and apologized for previously speaking about him with pride.

For now, no change to Ha Young’s participation in There Is a Chance of Winning has been officially announced, and she is continuing with the drama’s existing filming schedule.
