Kim Go Eun has shared the funny story behind why she accidentally missed Park Ji Hyun’s congratulatory hug after winning the grand prize at the Blue Dragon Series Awards.
In a recent interview released through the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Blue Dragon Series Awards YouTube channel, Kim Go Eun looked back on the moment she received the top honor.
She explained that two projects she participated in had been nominated for Best Picture, which already made her feel proud.
Kim Go Eun said, “It is difficult for every project to receive a good response even when you work on many productions, so I was happy that there were meaningful results.”
She added that she had only prepared a short acceptance speech in case she won Best Actress, so hearing her name announced for the grand prize caught her completely off guard.
She shared, “When I actually received the grand prize, all the projects I had shown over the past year flashed through my mind, and my head went blank. I accepted it with gratitude as encouragement and praise for having worked hard.”
However, another moment from the ceremony later drew attention. As Kim Go Eun went to receive congratulations, she accidentally walked past Park Ji Hyun, who was standing nearby with her arms open for a hug.
Kim Go Eun explained that she did not realize what happened until she later watched the video.
She said, “My school friend Lee Sang Yi was shouting ‘Hey! Kim Go Eun!’ so loudly from behind that my attention was completely taken away.”
Because she was reacting to Lee Sang Yi’s enthusiastic celebration, Kim Go Eun failed to notice Park Ji Hyun directly in front of her.
She continued, “I was greeting Lee Sang Yi and ended up walking right past Ji Hyun, who had her arms open. After I saw the video later, I sent Ji Hyun a very long apology message.”
Kim Go Eun also expressed her appreciation for Park Ji Hyun, saying, “Thanks to meeting such a wonderful partner, I was able to receive this valuable award and have our work recognized. I am always cheering for her and I am grateful.”
She also joked about Lee Sang Yi’s highly expressive reaction, which became one of the memorable moments from her win.
Kim Go Eun said, “I contacted him separately and thanked him because his passionate reaction made the award feel even more meaningful.”
She then playfully promised to return the same energy in the future, adding, “If I am there when Lee Sang Yi wins an award someday, I told him I will open my nostrils and mouth just as wide.”
Kim Go Eun ended the story with a joking message to her friend: “Lee Sang Yi, work harder.”
