Red Velvet’s Seulgi shared a funny story from her solo trip to Japan, where she misunderstood a simple photo request and ended up feeling embarrassed.
During a recent appearance on Hyeri’s YouTube show Hyell’s Club with Irene and Yeri, Seulgi talked about traveling alone and trying experiences she had always wanted to enjoy.
She explained that one of her goals was to sit at a bar by herself and have a conversation with the bartender.
Seulgi said, “I always wanted to talk with a bartender. Since I can speak a little Japanese, I decided to plan a trip to Japan.”
While she was speaking with the bartender, a group of Korean customers entered the bar. The bartender, apparently trying to be considerate, seated them next to Seulgi because they were all Korean.
Seulgi said she was already feeling slightly awkward about drinking alone when one of the customers suddenly asked, “Could you take a picture for us?”
Thinking they were asking for a photo with her because they recognized her, Seulgi politely turned them down.
She recalled responding, “I’m traveling alone, so I’m sorry.”
However, she soon realized that the group was not asking to take a photo with her at all. They simply wanted Seulgi to take a group photo of them.
After seeing them trying to take a selfie together, Seulgi said she finally understood the situation and offered, “Should I take it for you?”
She then took the group photo for them while feeling embarrassed over the misunderstanding.
Irene laughed and pointed out that the customers probably never expected to see Seulgi there in the first place.
Seulgi jokingly replied, “Please, I hope they didn’t recognize me.”
The story became even funnier after the people involved reportedly appeared in the video’s comments, confirming the memorable encounter.
What started as an awkward misunderstanding during Seulgi’s quiet solo trip ultimately became one of the funniest stories from her Japan vacation.
