Actress Ha Young’s agency has responded to growing online discussion surrounding her family background, confirming the identity of her great grandfather while denying claims linked to his activities during the Japanese colonial period.

On August 10, Beasters Entertainment stated that Ha Young’s great grandfather was indeed physician Ahn Sang Ho.

The agency said, “It is true that Ha Young’s great grandfather was Ahn Sang Ho.”

However, it strongly rejected claims circulating online about his alleged pro Japanese activities, adding, “The online allegations regarding Ahn Sang Ho’s supposed pro Japanese actions are not true.”

The discussion began after Ha Young appeared on the August 7 broadcast of KBS2 variety show Problem Child in House and spoke about coming from a family of doctors spanning four generations.

During the program, Ha Young shared what she had heard about her great grandfather’s medical career.

She said, “I was told that he was among the first people in Hanyang to open a clinic specializing in Western medicine. After studying medicine in Japan, my great grandfather opened a Western medical clinic in Hanyang and also treated Emperor Gojong.”

Following the broadcast, some viewers identified the relative she mentioned as Ahn Sang Ho.

Historical records cited in Korean media state that Ahn Sang Ho entered a medical school in Tokyo in 1898 and later passed a medical practice examination in 1902.

After returning to Korea, he was reportedly involved in treating Emperor Gojong in 1919 when the emperor became seriously ill.

Questions later surfaced online about parts of Ahn Sang Ho’s life during the Japanese colonial period, including reports concerning his lifestyle and family circumstances that appeared in historical publications from that era.

Ha Young’s agency has now made its position clear, confirming the family connection while maintaining that the allegations being circulated about Ahn Sang Ho’s alleged pro Japanese activities are unfounded.

The agency did not provide additional details regarding the specific historical claims, and the matter continues to draw discussion online.
