Ahn Bo Hyun has shared his honest thoughts about returning as wealthy detective Jin Yi Soo in SBS’s upcoming Friday-Saturday drama Flex X Cop 2.

During the drama’s press conference on August 4, Ahn Bo Hyun jokingly explained why the second season took two years to arrive.

He said, “Jin Yi Soo went to police academy during those two years,” adding that viewers will see a more mature version of the character. While Jin Yi Soo’s playful personality remains, his growth as a trained police officer will become more noticeable in the new season.

Ahn Bo Hyun also addressed the pressure of following Agent Kim Reactivated, which ended with an impressive nationwide rating of 23.1%.

He said, “My expectations were greater than the pressure. I was happy that Agent Kim Reactivated* did well, but I did feel some pressure because I did not expect it to record such an incredible number.”*

Despite the high expectations, the actor said returning to the set felt comfortable because about 90% of the original cast and staff came back.

Ahn Bo Hyun explained, “It felt exciting, like returning to school after winter vacation,” adding that the new season will introduce unexpected characters and a wider range of cases. He also expressed hope that viewers will finish the season wanting a third installment.

Director Kim Jae Hong admitted that following the success of Agent Kim Reactivated created pressure for the production team. However, he emphasized that their main goal was not to compete directly with its ratings but to create a stronger season than the first.

He said, “It would be a lie to say there is no pressure after Agent Kim Reactivated* became such a huge success,”* before adding, “Our consistent goal was to make a second season that is better than season one.”

Flex X Cop 2 follows Jin Yi Soo as he returns after completing formal police training and works with his new team leader, Joo Hye Ra, played by Jung Eun Chae. The two previously met at police academy as a troublesome trainee and a strict instructor, creating a tense but entertaining partnership.

The drama is scheduled to premiere on August 7 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
