Jennie took home the first place trophy on the July 30 broadcast of Mnet’s M Countdown with her new song Less than a Lover, despite not appearing on the music show.
The song has shown strong results across Korean music and video platforms. It reached No. 1 on Bugs’ real time chart, Apple Music’s Today’s Top 100: South Korea, and YouTube Korea’s trending videos chart.
In China, Less than a Lover ranked No. 1 on three major music platforms, including QQ Music, NetEase Cloud Music, and Kugou Music. It also reportedly became the only single by a female solo artist released this year to receive Gold certification on QQ Music.
The track also performed well internationally. It entered the upper ranks of Apple Music’s Top Songs charts in several countries and regions, including Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. On Spotify’s Daily Top Songs chart, it ranked highly in South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and other markets.
Less than a Lover also reached No. 1 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in 27 countries and regions, including Vietnam, Chile, Indonesia, and Peru. According to the report, this is the highest number of iTunes No. 1 rankings achieved by a K pop solo song released this year.
The music video also ranked No. 1 on YouTube’s worldwide music video trending chart and topped YouTube’s video trending lists in both South Korea and the United States.
Jennie participated in writing and composing Less than a Lover. The alternative pop track was created with summer in mind and describes the excitement and lingering feelings of a relationship that is more than friendship but not yet a romance. Its sound features lo fi guitar and vintage electric keyboard elements.
Jennie is also scheduled to perform at major festivals, including Lollapalooza Chicago in the United States and Summer Sonic 2026 in Japan.
