BTS has drawn attention after its Grammy performance videos for Butter and Dynamite appeared to be unavailable on the official Grammy website shortly after the group announced that it would not submit music for this year’s awards.

As of July 30, the two performance videos could not be found on the Grammy website. However, the videos remain available on BTS’s official YouTube channel, BANGTANTV.

International music account Pop Core also shared an image showing an error message on a Grammy webpage featuring a BTS group photo. It stated, “The Recording Academy appears to have removed BTS’s Grammy performances of ‘Butter’ and ‘Dynamite’ from its website.”

The timing led to speculation online because BTS had announced its decision one day earlier.

The group stated through its personal social media accounts, “We have decided not to submit our music to the Grammys this year. We hope music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.”

Some industry observers interpreted the decision as a response to the Grammy Awards creating the new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category for music from countries including South Korea, China, and Japan.

Although the category was introduced to recognize the growth and diversity of Asian pop music, critics argued that combining different music industries under one regional label could reflect a Western centered viewpoint.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. later released an official statement addressing BTS’s decision.

He said, “We respect BTS’s decision not to participate in the Grammy process. The Asian Pop Music Performance category was created to celebrate the diversity and growth of Asian pop music. It was never intended to separate or discriminate.”

Claims that BTS’s performance videos were removed as a response to the group’s decision have not been officially confirmed. The Recording Academy has also not publicly explained why the videos are currently unavailable on its website.
