Tiffany Young has shared new details about Girls’ Generation’s upcoming 20th anniversary project, revealing that preparations are now underway and suggesting that more member units could be formed before the milestone celebration.
During a recent interview in Seoul, Tiffany spoke about the group’s long history together and her hopes of creating something meaningful for their 20th anniversary.
Tiffany said, “We have only just started working on it, but we want to show a great performance that remains true to who we are.”
She added that Girls’ Generation hopes to set a positive example for younger artists who want to continue promoting together for many years.
“We want to show a side of ourselves that can become a role model for junior artists who hope to stay active together for a long time,” she explained.
Tiffany also expressed strong support for the Girls’ Generation unit HyoRiSoo, saying she believed in the combination from the beginning. She noted that the unit members have been busy with recording, mixing, choreography practice, and festival appearances.
Speaking playfully about the unit’s popularity, Tiffany said, “HyoRiSoo is extremely popular right now. They are recording, mixing, practicing choreography, and even performing at festivals.”
She then suggested that HyoRiSoo’s strong response could open the door for another member combination featuring YoonA and Sunny.
“I believed in them before anyone else. I am very serious about creating units,” Tiffany said. “Since this combination is doing well, I think we should also create a YoonA and Sunny unit.”
She continued, “It made me think that we should form units involving all the members before the 20th anniversary. The members trust me and follow my ideas, so I think the 20th anniversary will be even more fun.”
Despite their individual schedules, Tiffany said the Girls’ Generation members continue to make time for one another. Sunny, YoonA, and Sooyoung recently attended her performance in the musical Yumi’s Cells.
Tiffany described the group’s relationship as one built on years of trust.
“Girls’ Generation has been together for such a long time, and I am grateful that the members believe in and trust one another,” she said. “I think Girls’ Generation understands Girls’ Generation better than anyone, so we trust and follow each other.”
She also explained that her experience has made her think more carefully about the group’s future direction, available stages, industry formats, and the positive influence female artists can have.
“I was born at SM, but I think I naturally tend to look further into the wider market,” she said. “As the years pass, I feel a greater responsibility to lead projects while considering the market format, the stages available to me, and how I can create a positive influence as a female artist.”
Alongside the anniversary preparations, Tiffany is celebrating 10 years since her solo debut. She will release her first full-length album, Edge of Calm, on August 20, featuring 11 tracks.
Tiffany said, “I prepared 11 songs with gratitude that I am able to release my first full album during my 10th year as a solo artist and my 19th year since debuting with the group.”
She credited her fans for allowing her to continue performing and confirmed plans for an Asia tour across seven cities with a new setlist. Rehearsals with her longtime live band have already begun on days when she is not performing in the musical.
Tiffany is currently playing the lead role of Yumi in Yumi’s Cells, which will continue its run at the CJ Towol Theater of the Seoul Arts Center until August 23.
