Sunmi shared a humorous but frustrating story about J.Y. Park’s demanding recording style and his habit of giving constant advice.
During the July 20 episode of SBS’s “Uh, but Like, Seriously!”, Sunmi appeared alongside TVXQ’s Yunho and Jonathan. While discussing people known for their passion, she named Yunho as her role model.
When J.Y. Park was suggested as another symbol of passion, Sunmi jokingly replied, “Honestly, I can’t stand him.”
She quickly explained that her comment was playful and connected to his habit of repeatedly advising artists to work with greater passion.
“He is very passionate, but he nags too much,” Sunmi said. “He always tells us that we need to be passionate.”
Sunmi then recalled recording her well known solo song “24 Hours.” According to the singer, J.Y. Park made her spend three days recording only the Korean syllable “mo” because he was not satisfied with its delivery.
“It is such a brief moment,” she said. “I never imagined that one syllable would take three days. I was very upset at the time.”
She continued, “I still do not know what kind of ‘mo’ he wanted. He kept me in the recording studio for three days because of one syllable. Even when I listened to it afterward, I could not tell what the difference was.”
Sunmi’s playful complaints drew laughter as she described J.Y. Park’s passion, attention to detail, and demanding standards in the recording studio.
