Nam Joo Hyuk has carefully spoken about the school violence allegations that were raised before he began his military service.
During an interview on July 21 for the Netflix series “The East Palace”, the actor said the matter is still going through a process in which the facts are being clarified.
“The facts are currently in the process of being clearly established”, Nam Joo Hyuk said. “I am watching the process carefully and quietly going through it. I do not think I can discuss the details here”.
The allegations were first raised in June 2022. At the time, Nam Joo Hyuk’s agency denied the claims and said they were false.
In 2024, a court issued a summary order fining the person connected to the report 7 million won for defamation through false information. However, public discussion surrounding the allegations continued while Nam Joo Hyuk was completing his military service.
When asked why he had not publicly highlighted the legal developments, Nam Joo Hyuk explained that he preferred to quietly allow the process to continue.
“I am not the type of person who wants to make a show of things, so I think I have simply been allowing time to pass naturally”, he said.
He added, “The court has made its decision, and the facts are in the process of being corrected.”
Nam Joo Hyuk also addressed whether the controversy placed additional pressure on his acting return. He said every project already comes with responsibility and that he approached “The East Palace” with the same sincere attitude he has always maintained.
“I feel pressure every time I film a project,” he shared. “I always begin each project thinking that I must do my best”.
He continued, “It is difficult to say that this project felt especially different. I approached it with the same sincere attitude as always. I will continue to do that, and I hope viewers can enjoy more good projects in the future.”
Nam Joo Hyuk recently returned to acting in Netflix’s fantasy mystery series “The East Palace”, which was released on July 17.
