Nam Joo Hyuk has shared a cheerful look behind the scenes of Netflix’s “The East Palace” while the series continues to receive mixed reactions from viewers.
On July 20, the actor uploaded several photos to his personal social media account with the short caption, “9000.”
In the images, Nam Joo Hyuk is seen resting on a leather sofa while dressed in a dark blue traditional hanbok and historical headwear. He added a playful touch to the serious costume by wearing black sunglasses.
Other photos showed performers wearing full green chroma key suits as they crawled along stairs and reached toward him. The images offered fans a glimpse of how the series created some of its supernatural scenes using visual effects.
“The East Palace”, released on July 17, stars Nam Joo Hyuk as Gu Cheon, a man who becomes involved in investigating a mysterious curse inside the royal palace.
Following the series’ release, some viewers expressed disappointment with parts of his performance. They commented that his line delivery, expressions, and historical drama speech style sometimes felt too restrained for a character expected to show complex emotions and a strong presence.
However, these responses reflect the personal opinions of some viewers, and reactions to his performance remain mixed.
The discussion has gained additional attention because “The East Palace” reportedly had a production budget of around 40 billion won, raising expectations for its acting, visual effects, and overall quality.
Despite the online debate, Nam Joo Hyuk’s latest photos showed a relaxed and humorous side of the production process.
The actor is also set to appear in the Disney Plus original series “Code: Faust Game”, alongside Lee Yi Dam.
