Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon honestly shared her thoughts about celebrities buying expensive homes in Seoul’s Hannam dong neighborhood.
During the July 16 broadcast of MBC’s “Where Is My Home”, Hyoyeon joined fromis 9’s Chaeyoung, Yang Se Chan, and Ahn Jae Hyun to explore a home owned by a single woman in her 50s who had lived in Hannam dong for 20 years.
While touring the property, Yang Se Chan explained that the area has become popular among people in their 40s. He said, “Many people in their 40s are looking at this neighborhood these days. I am interested in it too.”
The conversation turned to celebrities who reportedly purchased homes in Hannam dong.
BLACKPINK’s Jennie previously attracted attention after reportedly buying a luxury villa near UN Village for 5 billion won in July 2023. She was said to have paid the full price in cash.
IVE’s Jang Wonyoung also made headlines after reports stated that she purchased a Hannam dong villa for 13.7 billion won in February 2025, also paying entirely in cash.
After hearing about celebrities purchasing homes in the area, Hyoyeon admitted, “These days, I often see articles about celebrity friends buying homes alone in Hannam dong. I am jealous.”
However, Chaeyoung shared a different impression of the neighborhood. The singer, who spent part of her trainee period near Hangangjin Station, said that she once felt overwhelmed by Hannam dong.
She explained, “The energy felt very strong. There are many old buildings, and it seems like many wealthy people live there, so I felt intimidated. I thought I should consider this area again after I turn 30.”
Her honest comment caused the other cast members to laugh.
