Park Eun Bin and Yang Se Jong are preparing to bring a new version of “Spooky in Love” to television, with the upcoming tvN drama expanding the original movie into a 12 episode series.
The new “Spooky in Love” is based on the 2011 romantic comedy film starring Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ki. It follows Cheon Yeo Ri, a wealthy hotel executive who can see ghosts, and Ma Kang Wook, a passionate prosecutor who is more afraid of ghosts than living people.
During the drama’s press conference on July 14, Park Eun Bin explained that the remake keeps the original supernatural romance idea but changes and expands many parts of the story.
“The movie is about two hours long, but our drama has 12 episodes,” she said. “We included at least six times more story and settings.”
She added that aside from the female lead’s ability to see ghosts, most of the drama will feel new. One major addition is that anyone who touches Cheon Yeo Ri’s hand may also gain the ability to see ghosts.
Park Eun Bin described her character as someone who appears strong but has a warm and caring personality. Cheon Yeo Ri also lives a double life while leading one of South Korea’s most luxurious hotels.
Yang Se Jong plays Ma Kang Wook, a determined prosecutor who follows cases until the end. The actor described him as righteous and rebellious, adding, “He is not afraid of living people, but he is scared of ghosts.”
The two stars, who are the same age, also shared that they quickly became comfortable while working together.
Park Eun Bin said this was her first time acting opposite a romantic partner of the same age. Yang Se Jong added, “We worked very well together, laughed a lot, and had a good time.”
Ong Seong Wu will appear as Kang Min Hwan, an ambitious hotel executive and a new character who did not exist in the original movie. The role marks his acting return following the completion of his military service.
Ong Seong Wu said he chose the role because he wanted to show a different side of himself. Although Kang Min Hwan appears gentle, he holds strong ambitions and is expected to become an important source of tension in the drama.
Director Lee Min Soo expressed confidence in the cast and said Park Eun Bin would show both lovely and charismatic qualities. He also praised Yang Se Jong for bringing humor, awkward charm, and a more mature appeal to his character.
According to Park Eun Bin, romance makes up around half of the series, while the remaining story includes supernatural mystery, investigation, action, and comedy.
With more characters, new abilities, and a much longer story, the drama aims to offer a fresh experience while keeping the main charm of the original film.
“Spooky in Love” will premiere on July 18 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
