Nam Joo Hyuk shared his honest and humorous reaction to the new ways actors are expected to promote their projects after returning from military service.
Nam Joo Hyuk and Roh Yoon Seo appeared together on episode 148 of TEO’s web variety show “Salon Drip,” released on July 14, to promote their upcoming project “The East Palace”.
The appearance marked Nam Joo Hyuk’s first time appearing on YouTube for project promotions since completing his military service.
He admitted that he felt nervous, saying, “This is my first YouTube appearance, so I am nervous.”
When Roh Yoon Seo noted that YouTube had become even more popular while he was serving in the military, Nam Joo Hyuk joked, “The world has changed a lot.”
Host Jang Do Yeon agreed that promotional methods had changed significantly. Nam Joo Hyuk explained that short form content had not been as common before he enlisted, but actors are now often expected to film Reels and participate in online challenges.
“There were not many Reels before, but now I have to do them,” he said. “I get nervous thinking they might suddenly ask me to dance. I start breaking out in a cold sweat.”
Roh Yoon Seo, meanwhile, showed that she had already become familiar with online trends. She explained that fans often ask her to recreate popular memes when she visits birthday cafes or meets them in person.
“I am grateful, so I work hard and do everything they ask,” she said.
She added that one of her videos appeared to reach a wider audience through social media algorithms. Even the staff and Nam Joo Hyuk had seen her doing the “Aegyo Challenge,” which led to her being teased repeatedly.
Jang Do Yeon praised Roh Yoon Seo’s performance, saying she understood why the video had spread because the actress made the challenge entertaining to watch.
Roh Yoon Seo joked, “I worked harder on that than on promoting the project.”
Jang Do Yeon then asked Nam Joo Hyuk whether he would also try the “Aegyo Challenge.” He immediately lowered his head and replied, “My hands suddenly started shaking,” causing laughter on the set.
