Actor Jang Yo Hoon is receiving strong attention after leaving a powerful impression in Netflix’s “Teach You A Lesson,” but he says he is trying to stay calm and focused.
In a recent interview, Jang Yo Hoon opened up about the popularity of the series and how it has changed his daily life. “Teach You A Lesson,” which was released last month, quickly gained attention and reportedly ranked No. 1 globally after its release.
Jang Yo Hoon played Min Ji Woong, a young offender involved in serious crimes in the story. His intense performance made him stand out as one of the drama’s most memorable characters.
The actor shared that he has been feeling the response from people around him. He said, “Recently, I have been going to many auditions, and people tell me, ‘I enjoyed watching Teach You A Lesson.’” He added that some people also tell him, “You do not look bad in real life.”
However, Jang Yo Hoon said he is not getting carried away by the attention. He explained, “I do not really know if I have changed. I was excited at first, but now I have calmed down a little.”
He also shared that people in the industry have started recognizing him more, saying some have contacted him to ask about his schedule. Still, he remains careful about the sudden attention.
Jang Yo Hoon, who was born in 1993, also talked about the challenge of playing a 14 year old character. He said the director had been looking for an adult actor who could look young, and added, “The director said he kept thinking about my eyes.”
To prepare for the role, Jang Yo Hoon focused more on the character’s energy and body language than his actual age. He said, “Age is not something I can control, so I tried to focus on energy.”
He also made it clear that he did not want to excuse the character’s actions. Jang Yo Hoon said, “Min Ji Woong is an offender with no excuse. The director also said he would not defend this offender.”
The actor revealed that he looked back on memories from his own younger days to build the character’s restless energy, but he also drew a clear line between himself and the role. He said, “I had good adults around me.”
Jang Yo Hoon also praised his senior actors, especially Kim Mu Yeol, saying, “Senior Kim Mu Yeol allowed me to do everything I wanted to try.” He added that watching Kim Mu Yeol on set made him think, “I want to become an actor like that.”
Despite the attention from “Teach You A Lesson,” Jang Yo Hoon said he knows fame is not something he can control. He shared, “You do not become famous just because you want to be famous.”
He added, “I think this fame could be the last time,” explaining that opportunities like this are rare and that he does not want to take the moment for granted.
Rather than chasing popularity, Jang Yo Hoon said he wants to become an actor who continues working for a long time. He said, “I am not greedy about screen time. I want to become an actor who leaves an impact in good projects.”
He ended by sharing his goal, saying, “I want to become an actor who gives good influence. I think I have gained more responsibility.”
