Namkoong Min is showing strong confidence in his new KBS2 weekend drama “The Husband”.
On July 1, the production presentation for “The Husband” was held in Seoul with director Kim Jung Hyun and cast members Namkoong Min, Lee Seol, Kim Dae Myung, and Lee Sang Hee.
“The Husband” is a crime thriller about a man who fights to save his wife after she is kidnapped just before their divorce.
Namkoong Min plays Kang Tae Joo, a top doctor at Woori Together Hospital. Speaking about his return to KBS after 7 years, he said, “We worked hard on filming ‘The Husband,’ and because I am confident in it, I think we can get good results”.
The actor also shared why he chose the project. He said, “I got a good feeling when I first read it. I thought viewers would be able to watch it easily, and I also thought it could receive love from many age groups”.
Namkoong Min added that he read up to episode 4 without stopping because the script was fast, fun, and unique.
The drama will also compete with SBS’s popular Friday Saturday drama “Agent Kim Reactivated”, starring So Ji Sub. The drama recently recorded 15.7% ratings in just 2 episodes, making the upcoming Saturday ratings battle more interesting.
When asked about the competition, Namkoong Min joked, “My representative KBS work is ‘Good Manager,’ but So Ji Sub’s drama is ‘Agent Kim Reactivated,’ so it feels like he is one level above me. That makes me feel a little bitter”.
He also praised the rival drama, saying, “I watched it too. It was really fun, the subject was good, and it felt fresh”.
Still, Namkoong Min said “The Husband” has its own charm. He explained that while “Agent Kim Reactivated” has a more imaginative feel because it is based on an original work, “The Husband” feels more grounded in reality.
He added, “I chose this project to entertain viewers. Please enjoy watching on Saturday, and please also enjoy ours on Sunday. It would be even better if you watch on Saturday too.”
Lee Seol plays Go Se Yoon, Tae Joo’s wife and the chairwoman of Woori Together Hospital. She shared that working with Namkoong Min again made filming more comfortable, saying she learned a lot from his passion and detailed approach to acting.
Kim Dae Myung plays No Man Hee, the man involved in the kidnapping. He said, “I did not approach No Man Hee thinking of him as a villain. I thought about what it would be like to boldly say and do things I normally cannot do”.
Director Kim Jung Hyun said the drama includes many action scenes, including car chases, running scenes, abandoned buildings, roads, and even scenes filmed on a frozen lake. He said the cast worked hard physically and completed filming without major accidents.
Namkoong Min also explained that his action scenes were different from his past dramas. He said he tried to show how an ordinary doctor would move in a dangerous situation, rather than making the action look too polished.
Director Kim Jung Hyun described the drama as “an easy drama that you can turn on without thinking too much and follow,” while Kim Dae Myung said it may become “the most fun content you can watch this summer”.
“The Husband” will premiere on July 4 at 9:20 PM KST.
