Heo Nam Jun opened up about the many part time jobs he took before gaining attention as an actor.
On the June 24 broadcast of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, the actor shared that he worked at several places in the past, including a beer restaurant, a department store, a shoe store, and construction sites.
Heo Nam Jun said he worked on a building in Sindang dong and later at an apartment reconstruction site in Gwacheon. He recalled the difficult routine, saying, “I had to wake up at 4 a.m. and go early to the labor office.” He added that there were times when he could not get work depending on the order of workers.
He admitted the job was much harder than he expected, saying that after his first day, “it felt like my body was breaking apart.” Still, he said he kept working hard and tried not to show how difficult it was.
What surprised viewers most was his work schedule. He revealed, “I worked 7 days a week without resting even once for 3 months.” He explained that he was paid 130,000 won per day, adding, “Since I was earning 910,000 won a week, I thought I should keep earning and save money.”
Heo Nam Jun also honestly talked about struggling while working at a department store shoe section. He said he had trouble finding items in the storage room and even wondered, “Am I stupid?” because he could not understand the system well.
However, he shared a lighter story from the construction site, saying the site manager seemed to enjoy talking with him. He once told the manager he was too scared to carry a long pipe near a high area and said, “I cannot do this. You are not scared, manager.” The manager joked that it was the first time someone had asked him to do the work instead.
Heo Nam Jun recently appeared in the SBS drama My Royal Nemesis, which ended on June 20.
