Former SISTAR member Bora opened up about the difficult emotions she faced during her 3 year break.
Bora appeared as a guest on Jo Hyun Ah’s YouTube channel “Jo Hyun Ah’s Ordinary Thursday Night,” released on May 14, where she spoke honestly about the anxiety, guilt, and personal struggles she experienced after her busy schedule slowed down.
During the talk, Bora confessed, “At first, I did not know I was in such a hard state.” She continued, “Actually, I had a harder time mentally when I was not busy.”
Bora shared that she eventually had to accept what she was going through. She said, “I accepted that my mental health was not good, and I thought I had to overcome it by myself.”
She also looked back on the time when she spent about 3 years without an agency. Bora explained, “It was not that I did not work at all, but I was not as active as before.” She added that she chose not to sign with a company right away.
The singer and actress also revealed that resting made her feel guilty. She said, “I felt a really big sense of guilt about resting itself,” adding that she kept telling herself, “When have you ever properly rested? It is okay to rest now.”
Jo Hyun Ah related to Bora’s feelings and shared that she also feels anxious even after resting for only a few days, wondering, “What if I end up resting forever?”
Bora then talked about discovering a different side of herself. She said, “I originally thought I was just a bright person,” adding that the lively image she showed during SISTAR’s activities was also real. However, she later realized she had been hiding another side of herself.
She confessed, “It turns out I am someone who has a darker side than anyone else,” and added, “I realized late that I had been covering myself with a bright image.”
Bora ended by saying she now wants to show a more honest version of herself, sharing, “Now, I want to show myself as I am, without decorating anything.”
