BIGBANG’s Taeyang opened up about the behind the scenes stories from the group’s Coachella stage.
On May 12, Taeyang appeared on the YouTube channel “Salon Drip” and looked back on BIGBANG’s Coachella performance with Jang Do Yeon.
During the talk, he shared fun stories about his solo stage, Daesung’s trot performance, and the group’s famous “BIGBANG style” choreography.
When asked if he watches fancams, Taeyang said he does not search for them on purpose. However, he explained that they often appear on his social media algorithm, so he ends up watching them whenever they show up.
Taeyang also picked his Coachella solo stage of “Ringa Linga” as the fancam he liked the most. He revealed that taking off his shirt during the performance was not planned.
“It was not originally planned for me to take off my clothes,” he said. “I was just so into the stage at that moment, and I think it came out cooler than I expected.”
He then shyly added that he usually feels embarrassed about showing skin.
Taeyang also talked about BIGBANG’s Coachella setlist. He said the group only had one hour, so they wondered if it would be more meaningful to fill the show with group songs instead of solo tracks. In the end, solo stages were included as well, and Taeyang jokingly said he was ready for it.
He also shared his honest thoughts about Daesung’s trot solo stage, which became a hot topic among fans.
“At first, I wondered if it would be okay because of the nature of the trot genre,” Taeyang said. “But I thought it was all or nothing, and in the end, I think it was a big success.”
Taeyang then cleared up the truth behind a moment from BIGBANG’s “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” stage. Fans thought Daesung had missed his part, but Taeyang explained that it was actually his own part.
“It was not Daesung who missed it. It was originally my part,” he said. “I was too excited and missed it.”
He added that during the rehearsal for the second week of Coachella, Daesung told him, “Hyung, that is your part.”
Taeyang also responded to the online joke about “BIGBANG style sharp choreography,” which fans use to describe the group’s free and relaxed dance style that looks synchronized in its own way.
He said the group does practice a lot and that they match very well during rehearsals. However, he made everyone laugh by adding, “I don’t know why it becomes like that when we go on stage.”
