IU and Byeon Woo Seok’s romance in “Perfect Crown” faced its biggest crisis yet.

On the May 8 episode of MBC’s Friday Saturday drama, Seong Hee Joo, played by IU, and Grand Prince Ian, played by Byeon Woo Seok, were pushed into a difficult situation after their marriage contract was leaked.

As rumors and public criticism grew, Seong Hee Joo made a painful decision to protect Grand Prince Ian.

The episode revealed that Min Jung Woo, played by Noh Sang Hyun, and Queen Dowager Yoon I Rang, played by Gong Seung Yeon, were behind the leaked contract. Min Jung Woo wanted Seong Hee Joo for himself, while Yoon I Rang was trying to hide the late king’s wish to pass the throne to Grand Prince Ian.

The danger around the couple also grew when it was revealed that the poisoning attempt on their wedding day was connected to Yoon I Rang’s father, Yoon Seong Won, played by Jo Jae Yoon.

Even without knowing the full truth, Seong Hee Joo and Grand Prince Ian continued trying to protect each other.

Seong Hee Joo showed her true feelings for Ian when she told Min Jung Woo, “I like him, that person. Very much.” However, Min Jung Woo refused to help, coldly saying, “That is truly unfortunate.”

Later, Seong Hee Joo begged her father for help and asked him to protect Grand Prince Ian before herself.

Meanwhile, Ian quietly endured the pressure around him and tried to comfort her. When she ran into his arms, he hugged her and joked, “Are you a gift?”

But the emotional moment ended with Seong Hee Joo holding back tears and telling him, “Let’s get divorced.”

The episode also reached a new ratings high. According to Nielsen Korea, “Perfect Crown” recorded 11.7% nationwide and 11.9% in the Seoul metropolitan area.

It also ranked No. 1 among all Friday programs in nationwide, metropolitan, and 20 to 54 viewer ratings, while its highest real time rating reached 13.4%.
