Park Bo Young is drawing attention for showing a completely different side of herself in Disney+’s original series 'Gold Land'.
The series first premiered on April 29, and Park Bo Young plays Kim Hee Joo, a woman who is forced to return to a painful past she had desperately tried to escape.
From the first episodes, viewers praised her strong acting transformation and the darker image she brought to the screen.
In the story, Hee Joo has lived through repeated violence and threats under the name of family. She later works at Gold Land Casino and meets pilot Lee Do Kyung, played by Lee Hyun Wook, allowing herself to dream of happiness for the first time.
However, a sudden accident changes everything, and Hee Joo ends up returning to the place she feared most while carrying gold bars worth 150 billion KRW.
Park Bo Young has long been loved for her warm and bright image in many projects. While she already showed a more mature side through 'Our Unwritten Seoul', 'Gold Land' reveals an even more intense transformation.
Her new thriller role surprised many viewers, especially as she showed both fear and determination through Kim Hee Joo.
Although this is Park Bo Young’s first thriller, she received praise for leading the story with powerful emotions. Her trembling gaze, desperate survival instinct, raw action scenes, and rough emotional changes helped make Hee Joo’s dangerous situation feel more real.
After the premiere, viewers reacted strongly online, saying, “This is the first time seeing Park Bo Young like this,” and “Even though this is her first thriller, it feels like the role fits her perfectly.”
Others praised her character, saying, “I understand why Hee Joo had no choice but to become this strong,” and “She is just Kim Hee Joo herself.”
Many also called the role a possible new career-defining character, with comments such as, “It feels like a life character from the first episode,” “I did not know she could do action this well,” and “Park Bo Young can handle any genre.”
With 'Gold Land', Park Bo Young is once again proving why she is considered a trusted actress. The Disney+ original series releases two new episodes every Wednesday.
