Actress Jeon So Young opened up about her first lead role in Netflix’s new series 'If Wishes Could Kill' and shared that she asked Kim Go Eun for acting advice before filming began.
In a recent interview, Jeon So Young said, “Before filming 'If Wishes Could Kill,' I asked Kim Go Eun sunbaenim for acting advice.” She added, “She is my role model and the actress I want to resemble the most.”
'If Wishes Could Kill,' which was released on April 24, follows high school students who are warned of sudden death because of a cursed wish-granting application. Jeon So Young plays Se Ah, a track and field athlete who becomes one of the first people to question the true nature of the app.
The series has been gaining attention after ranking No. 4 on Netflix’s global Top 10 non-English shows chart.
Jeon So Young shared her gratitude, saying, “The global results are good, and the domestic results are also good, so many people around me contacted me.” She continued, “Fans also sent me DMs saying they enjoyed the series, so I feel thankful.”
When asked about taking on her first lead role, Jeon So Young admitted that she felt pressure. She said, “It would be a lie to say I did not feel burdened.”
However, she added that working with actors around her age made the experience more exciting, saying, “As time passed while filming, I started to think, ‘This might do well.’”
Jeon So Young also explained why she turned to Kim Go Eun for advice. She said Kim Go Eun had appeared in 'Exhuma,' which she felt had a similar genre mood to 'If Wishes Could Kill.'
According to Jeon So Young, Kim Go Eun advised her to discuss the attitude needed as a lead actress, as well as facial expressions and emotional changes, with the director and other actors.
She once again named Kim Go Eun as the actress she admires most. Jeon So Young said, “She can take on many different genres so well.” She added that Kim Go Eun’s past roles felt like characters only she could play.
Jeon So Young also shared a warm memory from meeting Kim Go Eun on the set of 'Yumi’s Cells' season 3, saying Kim Go Eun had a lovely charm and often smiled on set. She said, “She always greeted me brightly and hugged me, so I am thankful.”
