Park Bo Young opened up about why she decided to star in Disney+’s new series Goldland.

On April 27, Park Bo Young attended the production presentation for Goldland at Conrad Seoul in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. During the event, she explained that the crime genre was one of the reasons she wanted to join the project.

She shared, “I wanted to choose it because of the genre,” and added that the director told her she had an image of someone who would return gold bars if she found them.

Park Bo Young continued, “He asked what viewers would feel if a person like that made a different choice,” explaining how the offer made her interested in the role.

Goldland follows Kim Hee Joo, a customs officer who gets caught up in a 150 billion KRW gold bar smuggling case after unexpectedly obtaining gold bars. Hee Joo dreams of living a normal life after a difficult past, but her choice leads her into a dangerous situation.

This drama also marks Park Bo Young’s first challenge in the crime genre. She will star alongside Kim Sung Cheol, Lee Hyun Wook, Kim Hee Won, Moon Jung Hee, and Lee Kwang Soo.

Park Bo Young also talked about changing her usual lovely image for the character. Known by fans as “Povely”, she said the director asked her to lose weight because Hee Joo was not a person who grew up happily and had many scenes of running away with gold.

She explained, “The director said it would be good if I lost weight,” and added that she continued losing weight throughout filming. She also said the director wanted her to wear little to no makeup, so she gradually reduced her makeup to better match the dry and worn-out feeling of the character.

Park Bo Young also shared a warm story about working with Kim Sung Cheol, who plays Woo Gi. She said, “I don’t think I have ever been called noona this much in my life,” adding that he even changed BLACKPINK Jennie’s song “Jennie” into “noona” and called her that all day.

She praised Kim Sung Cheol for his many ad-libs and lively acting, saying he helped make their unique character relationship more fun. She also said Lee Hyun Wook, who plays her lover Lee Do Kyung, often asked what would make her feel more comfortable during filming.

Goldland will premiere on April 29 with its first two episodes. Two new episodes will be released every Wednesday, with a total of 10 episodes.
